MisterLister,

Only two people voted but I'm going to effort poast because I did some thinking and I have to agree with the result

To start, I should define what I mean by Christ-core. What I mean is Christian Metalcore. By that I mean, Metalcore (So like you know, the combo of Metal and Hardcore) where the lyricism is heavily influenced by Christianity. As in the lyrics are clearly written in a manner with respect to God and the Christian faith. For example there are genres like Viking Metal and Pirate Metal but at the end of the day those two genre's are just power metal with lyricism based on their respective genre and some more flare to the instrumentation to suit that. I'm stressing this point because that is why Wolves at the Gate is the best Christian Metalcore band out of these three. And I might as well just get this out of the way first so I can focus on the lyricism when I break down the bands later.
All three of these bands are Metalcore plain and simple but they vary in style. Wolves at the Gate is that band that started off very hard and strong with their first two albums with a metalcore sound but even then you can sort of hear that it's getting close to the edge of Hard Rock, which was really moreso the case with the next two albums and I guess the cover album which I'll get into a little screed later. Point is, yea its metalcore but it gets really close to the edge. Oh, Sleeper on the other hand is Metalcore through and through and it is alot closer to the origins of metalcore and they are also much more technical imo compared to the other two bands. And it works really well for them considering that 3 of their 4 albums are concept albums so you sort of need that technicallity to build the story that they were telling with those three albums. The Devil Wears Prada, it's what you expect with early 2000's metalcore but for some reason it has aged really well. That could be just my nostalgia goggles though but when I'm thinking of the four albums I have in mind that is clearly Christian Metalcore, yea it's that sound with an evolution.

Okay finally time for the evaluation of the lyricism of these three bands

Wolves at the Gate
Pretty much every song they write the idea of Christianity is there and your face with the lyrics. Their first three albums there is at least one song straight up praising God's grace and claiming the truth that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour. The album VxV for example uses samples that straight up sound like a priest giving his sermon for the first and last song. They have song titles like "The Father's Bargain" , "Majesty in Misery", "Step out to the Water" and these three songs in particular are the songs that are straight up worship songs and not only that, with the way the singing and instruments go, they are very uplifting. And not only is there that which imo makes them stand out from the other two, they also released a cover album this year, as in they just did a bunch of covers for an album. And in a way its like "of covers who cares" BUT from what I've listened to they've done a phenomenal job with the covers, so in theory, if someone looks up covers of the songs they did, really liked it and said "Oh wow, I wonder what their OG stuff sounds like" they're going to look into it and just get blasted with the Christian faith in a Metalcore kind of way and in a sense they are evangelizing in that way.

Tepid_Tapir,

@MisterLister Do you also do music theory of classical music? I want someone to walk me through it. I need to be told what to feel when I'm listening to Bach.

MisterLister,

@Tepid_Tapir No sorry I'm am a drunk Polack the best I can do is tell you that Post-Metal is the best Metal genre that there is and most of the time I will refuse to elaborate

MisterLister,

@Tepid_Tapir I bring up post metal cause I in my own head cannon would like to think that of all the metal genres the classical musicians from way back would also agree with me

@MisterLister @Tepid_Tapir try some post black metal, then. mgła is fucking amazing and they're pollacks too just like you. listen to 'exercises in futility V,' 'groza IV,' and 'age of excuse V.'

MisterLister,

@flux_the_cat @Tepid_Tapir Mgła is okay, but Odraza and Thy Worshiper is more of my cup of tea when it comes to Polish Black Metal

MisterLister,

@flux_the_cat @Tepid_Tapir Thy Worshiper is what you SHOULD expect out of a "folk metal" band to the likes of Saor
Odraza is more of the prog type stuff
