This is just Putin testing the waters and checking to see what NATO will do in this scenario. I can guarantee they’d be a lot more careful if we just told them “Any Russian or Belarusian aircraft or missile in or near the Ukrainian AO will be tracked by NATO forces. Any Russian or Belarusian aircraft or missile that crosses from the Ukrainian AO into NATO airspace or territory will be shot down with prejudice.” And then did it. That is the sort of “red line” that Putin understands.
I wonder if they'll start a second defense alliance without Hungary in the future. Like, completely the same alliance but without Hungary. All their treaties are copied from the current NATO one.
The problem is that even at the level of EU there are many "national" interests at play on all areas, all the time, which brings back the old question - it is impossible to rule a large mass of land and population with "rosy" ideology, like democracy, because everyone shouts and screams at the same time, failing to see the larger picture.
Putin has it right, Xi Poo Ping has it right and Trump has it right. They want power, by being dictators, and therefore controlling large masses. This is not "chit-chat" talk, it is the history of human civilization(s).
So unless we start (which I'm 0,0000001% certain we can) to trully figure out risks to our life in this planet as a global community of societies, we'll be f***ed. And we're already close to "midnight" AF.
I don't think he understands what kind of position we're in. Democrats already tried compromising with Republicans on this issue. We offered pretty comprehensive concessions that addressed their claimed concerns. As soon as they got it, they walked back their claims and demanded more.
The GOP is not negotiating in good faith. They're Putin's bootlickers.
