It says in that article linked that “hickeys” are caused by kissing OR “sucking”
Is this like some vacuum cleaner play stuff? How am I supposed to know of niche stuff like that. I’ve seen a dwarf get involved with such things but it was part of a circus performance and they never spoke the H word
@Arcana LMFAO yeah basically since a kiss is like a sucking thing you basically kiss/suck a spot on someone's neck or wherever hard for a lil bit and it will become a little bruise
@Arcana not necessarily, I think it's possible to just redden up the place for a couple minutes and it disappears right away, I'm not saying you should hold a vaccuum cleaner to your hand for 5 minutes
@Arcana@Ukko it isn't the same thing. hickeys usually are hematomas so by that definition ig it's technically is damaging your body and in the same category as driving a nail through your foot. but the degree of risk and suffering both confer upon you are so massively different that evoking "self harm" would make the term meaningless, putting aside maybe some strict biological, "what is happening to the cells of my body" usage. driving a nail through your food probably would result in severe pain, bleeding, broken bones, risk of infection, the inability to walk for extended periods and maybe nerve damage. in comparison hickeys dont (necessarily) hurt and i dont even know if there is any serious long term risk or complication of a hickey. ik you could technically get a blood clot? but in the entirety of modern medicine and the probably billions of people who have given each other hickeys i have found 1 (one) case where this was documented to happen to a person. this seems like a non issue but do your own research ig
@Ukko@nik why do people do it? What leads to the thought process of “I am going to kiss and suck this patch of skin in order to break capillaries” and the other person is like “Yes, do that”
@allison@Arcana@nik and also discomfort done to you by someone else feels very different in a sexual context. Tho now that i think having my neck be kissed or whatever feels very different from being tickled both in and out of sex
@Arcana@Ukko@nik Teenage couples do it a lot. It isn't even that hard and can happen by accident. You can even think about it in the sense of marking territory, if you wanna go that route.
@Arcana@Ukko@nik@mischievoustomato It's weird, I don't like it. Almost nobody after teenage years does it and teenagers usually laugh at people who have them, in a typical teenage fashion.
@adiz@scathach@Ukko@nik of course not, not only doesn’t it remind me of a very unpleasant thing, but it just makes little logical sense. I don’t see the appeal
@Arcana@adiz@Ukko@nik@scathach I dont think its really that common, its one of the things that supposedly everyone does but doesnt actually, like getting super wasted at parties
@Arcana@nik@Ukko@adiz@scathach its something people just know ig. part of the vast amount of background knowledge that I have no idea where or how I learned
