@paula9 I believe your minecraft sends a multicast packet which goes to the router and the router then sends it to everyone in the local network and her minecraft listens to it and that's how she will see the "available game open on LAN"
@paula9 And I'm not sure if you can do the direct server connection to a game open to LAN but maybe I'm wrong, that would be your PC IP address then. anyways if you can manage to make her PC connect to yours on IP layer then you can just run a dedicated server on one of the PCs lmao
@Ukko something else i tried was hosting a simple http server (with python3 -m http.server) and seeing if i could wget it from her pc
it didn't work
i can see both pcs on the router page, it all matches
@paula9 alright just to make sure, you both are actually connected to the same network and the same interface (so both are the same wifi or both are plugged up with ethernet)? I know one time I was stuck on getting my phone connecting to my pc for so long until i realised it was on data
@paula9 check if your router has some settings for port filtering or protocol filtering, if ping goes through that means ICMP is going through, if wget/http isn't going through that means TCP isn't going through, if minecraft's direct connection isn't going through that means UDP isn't going through. I'd expect if you get TCP working, UDP will have a similar toggle nearby
@paula9 hmmmm the Network->LAN option just lists the connected devices? If my memory still works NAT Forwarding is concerning connections going from outside to inside
@paula9@marisa wait what are you doing. You both are inside the LAN so you should use whatever IP the router's DHCP is assigning to you to talk to each other
@Ukko@marisa >The default Debian installation comes with the program iptables(8), configured to allow all traffic
nah thats not it
what is it then :pain:
@paula9 maybe your router is filtering out some packets? which seems weird, I'd expect they wouldn't care about what traffic goes around within their LAN unless there's a parental lock
