since our new friends are unfamiliar, i usually do maintenance over night on weekends and this week is no different :grafstare:
tonight's task: working on the matrix.
i've brought our config in line with the current config as outlined in the new documentation since the last time it was revisited was 3 years ago.
added users the ability to create their own spaces. now you can create a discord-like "server" complete with your own rooms and community with ease using the element client (or any that support the spaces feature which i think now is most clients)
will be working manually on the matrix database tonight as it's once again almost 1TB on disk. dont expect any downtime but it is possible. there will likely be downtime tomorrow overnight while a full vacuum is completed to remove what's left from me compressing room states tonight.

@tyler one time i stopped with two girls i was traveling with on highway 403 between london and hamilton in ontario on new years eve during a wicked snowstorm and changed some other girls tire but it turned out her battery had also died from sitting waiting for somebody so long so i had to fit her in a bench seat with two others to drive an hour into hamilton. saw her randomly like 4 years later at a pub in dundas ontario and she bought me and all my friends dinner
@tyler it was like this almost exactly except hood, roof and tonneau cover were seafoam pearlescent seafoam green with racing stripes. no backseats just bench. i gutted it shortly after and put in bucket seats but sold it and got a dakota for free. drove that for a couple years then bought a charger pursuit
Not that the larger trucks don't have value (I only have the larger trucks) but there's no varaity anymore. No more small sedans, no more small pickups. It's all BIG TALL NIGGA EPA shit.
@tyler i hand painted that shit myself brother tyler it was one of the cooler things i did in my early 20s. i bought it as a fire sale, the entire truck had burnt up so i built it from the ground up

@verita84_uwu right now the issue is the disappearance of many large matrix servers, anontier.nl and some others being shutdown or shutting down and deliverability. the last time I looked into the prune script there was warnings everywhere not to use it because it was outdated (at that time by 2? years). is there something new?
@verita84_uwu this isn't hard, you can actually get the largest rooms by user count from the database fairly easily and just use awk to input it into an environment variable you can load into that .sh

I don't know about new script, but matrix kind of doesn't like things trimmed. Isn't there a way to tell the matrix server to only retain messages for a month or something?
@soapone@verita84_uwu there is yeah. but it doesn't work very well. nothing administrative-focused works well when it comes to matrix-synapse. it's actually an absolute mess of a protocol and server
