Is youtube unprofitable?

Yes, but no, and not enough.

Youtube makes Google money. If it didn't, at the rate they burn cash, they would have been experiencing huge shakeups. You wouldn't be seeing injected ads, you'd be seeing heads on pikes and blood in the street.

The issue is that google will not let Youtube make money. tl;dr Google does fuck-fuck accounting games (industry term) so that most of the money Youtube makes is attributed to their marketing/advertiser relation business unit. When google services, like Fi or Fiber, advertise on Youtube, and which youtube is force to accept at internally set rates, Youtube's balance sheet gets an "internal credit" not revenue. When you get a targeted ad, which advertisers pay a higher price for, that premium goes to Google's Ad Data division, not Youtube.

Youtube is also hamstrung by Google's corporate practices. They have to employ a certain percentage of useless fags, queers, trannies, and niggers under their org and their pay and benefits come out of Youtube's profits.

The end result is that Google ensures Youtube never makes money because youtube is where they send people they want to fire. This isn't everyone, and google has other divisions they send people to shit can, but there are people who are flagged off the books as "this person is being sent here to fail so they either leave on their own or we can terminate for cause"

Either they can you for performance because you'll never hit revenue targets because google sends your money elsewhere, or they can say "Mes so sowwy, not enough people watch PewDiePie eat ramen this week, most honorable person we must cut your team." Entire teams have been created, staffed, and funded just so they can term the people sent to them.

Basically if Youtube was allowed to make money, they couldn't use it a bludgeon to force people out. This is because Youtube is an icky outside entity in Google, and its been used this way since they were acquired and were just straight burning cash.

Ok why the fuck do this bullshit?

Short answer: Google is trying datamine something. Longer answer: They are demoing this with static content because their Ad division wants to try to inject ads into streams. We're not just talking about Youtube mukbangs, what they're looking at is, for example, taking control of the NFL's ads to the Ads start during periods of low engagement and stop before periods of high engagement. Basically shove this into static content, and listen to people bitching to train the A.I. so that it can do this predictively and in real time. They can then take these numbers to streaming services and broadcasters, show "This AI causes the niggercattle to moo the least as we try to sell them Next Product, look at how consoomer opinion improved."

tl;dr: Google is trying to datamine, and underestimated the backlash.
