Weird shit I dreamed:
In a zoo a manatee laid an egg, which isn't even the weird part, and a honey badger went to pick it up to eat it. A zoo guardian went to stop this because manatee eggs are super rare, he said, and the honey badger started arguing, like, with words, he was yelling and all, then he started beat boxing and rapping about how the guy was stopping him from eating the egg.

Then I dreamed a cute girl with a very chubby crocodile tail but she wasn't doing anything remarkable, just sitting cutely trying to keep the tail hidden but doing a poor job.

Whenever I complain about open source software I get multiple:

  • "Have you tried forking this older version that'll need a lot of work to get up to par?"

  • "Have you tried using this library that only requires you to write a new frontend or heavily modify an existing one?"

I don't have the time or spoons to DIY myself out of every hole our modern software hell digs us into and assuming that all I need is an encouraging voice to let me know that "you can do it!" is actually really patronizing.

I know what I can do and I know how much resources I have to do things. I won't be joining or forking this particular project to fix it and that doesn't invalidate my point that the thing or situation sucks.

Insisting that the Foss alternative works better when it just doesn't is doing the opposite of helping, you are looking like an idiot and making people think open source is all trash.
Example, I hate discord and don't use it, but they fucking nailed screen sharing.
Not a single Foss alternative I use does it as efficiently, fast and with the same quality.

When I did use discord the screenshare was good enough to watch movies with a group of friends with almost no quality loss and in pretty much real time.

I dunno what to tell you, maybe quality went down, I haven't used discord in quite a while and I'm happy about it.
But when I did I had no such issues and honestly screen share is the only thing I miss from that malware.

I agree with this completely.
Instead of telling people use this because it's better it should be explaine in which way it's better. It's ethical and so on while the non foss programs have issues even if they might get the job done.
People should understand those things rather than being convinced to use something that would cut them out from their acquaintances (like in the case of IM programs).
"Don't use discord, use namehere instead"
"Ok, installed and made an account, how do I add my friends?"
"Oh you can't"
And bam, just like that you made someone start with the wrong foot just because you didn't explain things.
