@RustyCrab One thing he never mentions is motorcycles though, so I'm kind of curious, why are motorcycles not more popular over there? Is it because they lack any cargo capacity?
@sneeden cargo capacity is probably the main reason.
Think about it like
if you HAVE to have a car for utility (hauling groceries) are you just going to have a car or are you going to have a car and a bike? Bikes are viewed more as a luxury thing for fun. Its rare to see young guys on them.
@RustyCrab@sneeden if you want a harley or heaven forbid an indian you're going to be paying out the ass but there are plenty of affordable jap bikes and the used market for jap bikes was fantastic until covid. now 80s bikes that would've been $600-1000 on craigslist before want $3500 which is ridiculous when you can buy a brand new dual sport for $7000
@d@RustyCrab@sneeden even without a real winter riding in the rain sucks and overall risk of death is far higher. if you enjoy them for themselves they make sense but otherwise it's a pretty difficult sell
@RustyCrab Yeah, that makes sense, it's likely easier to just get a older car and be done with it.
Over here bikes are getting really popular, it's the starving student's first vehicle. It does bring a whole lot of other problems (like reckless motorcyclists) though.
@RustyCrab@sneeden this falls in the category of things I have no problem doing and possibly enjoy but I will not encourage other people to do it too because it's a sort of personal journey thing. you get there on your own, or it's not where you're supposed to be
stealth ebike that you pretend is a regular bike and take on sidewalks and shit. chinesium purchased from amazog. all certifications likely counterfeit. battery has a non-negligible chance to explode, permanently injuring you for life or lighting your house on fire
@sneeden@RustyCrab well do the folks in like finland and shit ride motorcycles in the winter?
most of western europe seems to have ridiculously mild winters
