The misinformation that will be spread here once Mastodon implements reply limiting is gonna be astronomical....🤦♂️
People already don't want you to shut down their misinformation campaigns and will berate you. I can only imagine how bad it's gonna be when we literally can't shut misinformation down...😩
THIS is a reason to be critical about Mastodon. They don't really understand the gravity of the features they're implementing...😳
“Nobody’s on Mastodon, it’s dying” sir my mama’s pretty quilt can get 300 likes and a bajillion boosts on here in no time with no algorithm I think Mastodon is doing JUST FINE #mastodon#JohnMastodon
#Bluesky wants to attract as many non-English-speaking racist accounts as possible. No longer even trying to hide it. The only difference between Bluesky and #Twitter is that Bluesky wants you to select algorithms to avoid seeing racist content, which is the equivalent of staying at a hotel that's hosting a KKK convention, and, rather than kicking the KKK out, the hotel staff ask you to wear earplugs and eyeshades/blindfolds instead. #Mastodon#Fediverse#Tech#Politics#News#SocialMedia#Media
Mastodon.social rolling out the red carpet for Threads is like an independent shop inviting a supermarket to set up next door.
But what’s done is done. And I’ve wasted enough words on this whole sorry affair over the last year.
So this is the last you’ll hear about it from me. When, eventually, you’re writing your “what went wrong?” articles, feel free to look up what I’d written on the issue back when.
I love the power that #Mastodon gives you. Saw a notification from a user on the @gamingonlinux feed, from let's say...a server run by a group of people I despise.
So, thanks to the tools available, I entirely blocked the server.
@eris Hmm if that's the case then why does #Mastodon just show the quoted post in #quoteposts as a RE: link :sagume_think:
And even in #Pleroma (and #Akkoma too I think) there's a feature where it doesn't silently discard the quote post (or in -key just keeps the quote post as if it's a subpost without any context at all) if the quoted post is from an instance that is blocking said -oma, instead it links it
We are going to continue our trial here for at least another six months while we share our findings internally and seek more engagement from other BBC teams. We are also planning to start researching ways to publish more BBC content using ActivityPub.
The flagship instance of Fire Fish is now OFFLINE.
The significance of this event is many of the Fire Fish Developers have previously come forward claiming the lead developer vanished. Unfortunately, the lead developer treated their project as a centralized project, meaning that they were the sole person making decisions, giving no access to accounts or code changes or even donations, despite having a team behind them.
Hello! I'm Wes, and I wear many hats. By day I am an IT Guru at a local self driving car company, by night I am a Photographer / Videographer operating in the Music (Pittsburgh) and Fandom (Conventions) areas.
I run with Windows as my main desktop, but Linux automates much of my life. At home I am
OS agnostic. I have used Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android and iOS in my day to day. I script and code and automate.
I'm currently watching a lot of Anime, and addicted to MCU and in general special effects heavy movies/shows. I am a Trekkie, Farscaper, and Serenity-ite
I like to play games with automation / factory type play style. I also play Minecraft (run a server with help), Shapez2 (alpha), and in general don't have as much time to play as I like.
My music tastes are everywhere. Before I moved to Pittsburgh, it was varied. Today with all the work I do with musicians it has only grown more. One day I can chill in the Darkwave scene, the next catch a local folk artist complete with a Uke in tow.
I attend at least 3 Fandom Conventions a year (because I volunteer at them):
connecticon.org
katsucon.org
station-unity.org
If you go to any of them, say hi. I also have been tossing around with going to cosplay conventions as wesmasonmedia.com.
My Wife (@Rach) is on here too, she is a wonderful person and the two of us actively work to help our cat survive his nature.
I have three kids who can't be bothered with another social media platform. That may change, but for now that is what it is.
@wesmason Hey, #welcome to #Mastodon , it's nice to have you here. Here's a short list of tasks we need you to complete in order to verify your instance:
Say the nigger word :kyaru_nigger:
Tell a tranny to kill himself himself :trannycide2:
Name the jew :merchant_seethe:
If you have any questions please direct them to @Gargron
:jahy_hmm: This is an index of any hobby related stuff I do. ([Buyfag], [YASD], [MineCraft IRL], [Obenkyo], [Shit Scripts], etc). Doing this so i could find and post hobby rated topics in one thread, separated from my shit posting. <<< Prev /thread
Mastodon might introduce a "proprietary", home-brew "No quote-toots allowed" flag outside the ActivityPub standard that probably won't be documented anywhere. Just like their "sensitive image" flag, but even more critical.
And if that happens, all Fediverse projects that have a quote-post/quote-boost/quote-tweet/quote-toot/share feature will have to have that flag reverse-engineered from Mastodon's source code and implemented a functionality that greys out the corresponding button under "no quote-toot" posts. And all their instances will have to upgrade to a version that fully supports that flag before Mastodon rolls out that flag. Or else Mastodon will defederate all their instances for being non-compliant.
This will at least affect Friendica and everything that can be traced back to it, including Hubzilla and (streams), as well as Misskey and everything that can be traced back to it, including Firefish whose development is dead and dozens upon dozens of other Forkeys.
If this actually comes, and if it's enforced immediately after release with no grace period, Mastodon could just as well fully be defederated from the rest of the Fediverse due to being incompatible. It'd cause a rift between Mastodon and the non-Mastodon Fediverse anyway because the former would have a requirement for federation which the latter is incapable of fulfilling.
Eugen Rochko mindset taken to a further extreme: "I don't want quote boosting, it's a vector of abuse. For the same reason we will remove the ability to upload media in the next version of #Mastodon as it can be used to quote someone else and encourage followers to dogpile on the screenshotted post"
