I also read a book in 5th grade about a magnitude 11-12 earthquake happening on that fault line which was really bad. The Delta will get fucked but we might make it alright down here. Most of southeast Louisiana will get flooded by the Mississippi and the golf tho. Our infrastructure will be totally fucked tho but at least that can be rebuilt.

@RedTechEngineer you're the JPEG XL expert so I'll ask you. How can I losslessly convert Ultra HDR JPEGs into HDR JPEG XL without using lossless encoding? I know it can be done with regular JPEGs but not sure about HDR JPEGs.
I've decided to try adopting JPEG XL. The first order of business is to encode my personal photo library into JPEG XL. I know one of the big selling points of JPEG XL is that you can losslessly convert JPEG into lossy JPEG XL. I need to know how to do that while retaining HDR or if I just shouldn't bother with JPEG XL for now.
@sjw im not sure i entirely understand what you are asking. you want to losslessly convert Ultra HDR JPEGs (which im not familiar with) into HDR JPEG XL without using lossless encoding?
also i also wouldn't call myself an expert, i just like it because its fast and doesn't use up all my bytes.
by default cjxl will losslessly transcode jpg into jxl cjxl a.jpg b.jxl which is what sounds like you are asking for, you can explicitly do that by adding --lossless_jpeg=1
you can make it losslessly encode by using --lossless_jpeg=0 -d 0 but im not sure why you would, since re-encoding the image is slower and in my experience less efficient than transcoding.

This coming weekend I'm planning on about an hour of Baest downtime. I'm going to perform some maintenance on the database. This maintenance will consist of rsyncing all of the data off the drives and then rsyncing it all back on. Why? To balance the array as it was never balanced after I upgraded it from a RAID 1 to a RAID 10.

some serious database degradation is going on with the poast matrix. offlining now to swap the drives to the other racked chassis and im going to attempt to repair the database. downtime will be probably at least an hour, likely 4 or 5

Here, av1 is 330mb, h265 is 620mb.
I used hardware acceleration for HEVC but I doubt it would make that much difference

i was going to do this but with Arc encoding instead of svt but ffmpeg won't talk to my gpu and the people over at handbrake.fr introduced a new feature where if you try to encode at a specific bit-rate using an Arc GPU the program crashes (even with other GPU encoders) and they also changed the constant quality slider to range from "i can't tell the difference between this and the source file" through "why the fuck is my video file 50 GB"
we truly live in a society and this is what i get for updating an Ubuntu LTS based distro with an Arc GPU.
