that explains a good deal of my tech knowledge lol

please do. I am currently comfy on arch, but perhaps i might return to nixos someday, perhaps when i get a new laptop.
Nix documentation is incredibly scattered and a lot of things require people to know the language and functional programming well... (libs/functions/definitions are written, no documentation, but self-documentate themselves if you know the lang well)
mess mess mess
yupperino.
Yeah nix can be very obscure. One of my overrides didn't work because something somewhere was cached? And I had to use a nix store command to delete the thing? But it'd fail due to stuff that depended on it? But even if you got rid of everything that did depend on that thing, the command to delete the thing would fail due to a bug? THAT WAS NOT FIXED YET AFTER YEARS?
yeah that's what broke the camel's back for me and I went to a normal distro
yeah, it's messy. It's TOO ABSTRACTED and NOT DOCUMENTED ENOUGH so you can't easily figure out what to turn off or on. I know you can disable phases easily, but yeah. I hate that.
I am attempting to set up on popOS and not a single step I have done has gone smoothly. I think I would rather deal with codec issues and some reduced battery. This is not workable.
> poor battery life
idk what laptop you had, but i just install powertop and then do enable its systemd service, and my battery life is fine.
> very annoying codecs
did the guides to install codecs not work?
that's very weird. If you decide to try fedora again, tell me about the formats because i had never had those issues. I am on arch right now but I have fedora knowledge still
Hm, weird. I don't use flatpaks, just used mpv, all thru dnf. I assumed that Brave bundled its own codecs. I know vivaldi does that, and so should Chrome. I've only hit an "unsupported codec" message and that was on firefox, but it was a firefox issue, not a linux issue (it worked fine on google chrome)
hmmm. I wonder then if you hit the same issue i hit. A h265? mp4 wouldn't upload at all to instagram on firefox bc muh unsupported codec (and firefox DOES not support it at all, look at about:support), and it fails SILENTLY. So I just used Google Chrome for those things.
Hell, even on arch it gives me "unsupported codec" at times but its also another retarded thing. I can't wait for mesa and google to do the things they need to do to support vaapi on linux and wayland so i can move to google chrome
Huawei claims HarmonyOS NEXT kernel is 3x more efficient than Linux
Huawei has unveiled a self-developed operating system called the HarmonyOS NEXT. At the development event, the CEO described the OS as fully independent with a full-stack AI framework. The CEO has also claimed that the Harmony kernel is three times more efficient than Linux.
I have a theory that part of YouTube's big push back on ad blockers now is part of a contract with the military that said "get rid of all of them". There is no economic sense in going for the last 5% of people who use invidious so aggressively. I have been setting up a new OS without adblock yet and almost every ad I've gotten so far has something to do with the army.
tbf, i heard that, but i have also seen that ublock just works and no one said their accounts got deleted so.... i enabled it again
on my phone i endure the ads because eh, i can easily close and reopen a vid to cancel an ad
well, well. we made it friends. through thick and thin and against a lot of people's wishes Poast is officially 3 years old.
what started out as a shitty mastodon server we somehow managed to convince 2000 people from twitter to join in the span of only a few hours on January 13, 2021 to over 30,000 strong today.
in three short years we managed to best every single challenge and hurdle thrown at us from brainlet dramanigger accusations to 0day exploits, news hit pieces and financial struggles we made it through all of it.
we are thankful that you have all stuck around despite everything, growing pains and all and we look forward to many more years here with you.
🎂🎈 god bless you poast and thank you for everything 🎈🎉
