SomeRandomAccount, in How can we get more users?
@SomeRandomAccount@burggit.moe avatar

I think the best way to get more users is to get more of the existing users to post (more) stuff. People aren’t going to pay much attention to a smaller instance like this if it doesn’t seem active (especially with all the defederation), and even just getting more of the current userbase to be more active would help with the “ghost town” feeling. Maybe we could have an Introductions community or weekly pinned https://burggit.moe/c/discussions thread or something. More community variety would probably also help, even if it’s just porn (at least it’d give people more of a reason to be here). I wonder, how many people are fine with loli (or any specific genre of porn) but aren’t really into it?

rinkan,

I wonder, how many people are fine with loli (or any specific genre of porn) but aren’t really into it?

I kind of fit that. I like “teen” loli stuff, but most loli art is too young for me. Sometimes I can overlook it if it’s a particularly hot scenario though.

mcuglys,
@mcuglys@burggit.moe avatar

I’m sure a lot of people are like that. It used to be very common on every hentai site (on many it still is) and on sites like Reddit, and art sites. Some people complained, most didn’t seem to care. There seems to be have some pressure put on a lot of websites (by advertisers? payment processors?) around the same time. Maybe also when Australia declared that drawn content was CP. Reddit cracked down on the loli subreddits (including SFW), booru sites like Gelbooru and E621 made it so you have to log in to see loli content, even 4chan doesn’t allow loli on most boards now. This only happened in the west though, sites like Pixiv still have a ton.

So to a new internet user, it seems like this stuff is much more rare/forbidden, but I’m sure everyone didn’t actually change how they feel in the past 10 years. Most people are like “eh, as long as it’s drawn, whatever” and although a minority, that content remains EXTREMELY popular on the sites that have it. A lot of people won’t admit they’re into it though. In a similar vein, now it’s considered bad to admit you’re tolerant of it on websites you use at all.

rinkan,

I’m pretty sure the change was due to the credit card companies cracking down on it, so the payment processors had to comply. I vaguely remember there being some sort of US government program to “encourage” them to do so, but I could be wrong on that.

diff, in Do you guys prefer the Burggit Sharkey instance or this Lemmy instance?
@diff@burggit.moe avatar

The Sharkey instance and it’s not even close. It has about 4 big issues I can think of at the moment, but other than that it’s great! I like the playfulness of the interface too, with all the animations and sound effects. it feels fun. I don’t know how Sharkey compares to other similar software that’s popular like Akkoma though.

Burgerlurker, in Do you guys prefer the Burggit Sharkey instance or this Lemmy instance?

I am unfamiliar with sharkey. I value this instance because it is literally the only loli friendly lemmy instance that I know of, and I think there needs to be a space for that on lemmy.

But if sharkey is a better use experience and has better content I could change my mind. Are there open source phone apps for browsing sharkey?

Burger,
@Burger@burggit.moe avatar

Anything compatible with Mastodon will work with Sharkey. There’s Husky, Fedilab, Milktea to name a few.

faxeneda, in Do you guys prefer the Burggit Sharkey instance or this Lemmy instance?
@faxeneda@burggit.moe avatar

I had never used Sharkey before today. I just created an account on the Sharkey instance and I don’t really know how to use it. If I’m correct in assuming Sharkey is similar to Mastodon, I don’t know if I’d use it much. I know I don’t post or comment very often on Burggit but I’ve always felt that the “Reddit” style social media sites like Lemmy work better for discussions and it seems like people are more likely to not just see but also respond to your posts.

I suppose I should post the Sharkey instance URL while I’m at it: dill.burggit.moe

kenu_demon, in Do you guys prefer the Burggit Sharkey instance or this Lemmy instance?
@kenu_demon@burggit.moe avatar

Ngl I barely use lemmy anymore. It’s the same reddit faggotry but powermods have more control. I’m more interested in this other instance.

Burger,
@Burger@burggit.moe avatar

I feel the exact same way. I hardly use Lemmy anymore. It consists of the same tired ragebait articles on the front page of each instance. As well as the same familiar Reddit style of moderation where “Anyone who doesn’t agree with me gets permabanned.”

mcuglys,
@mcuglys@burggit.moe avatar

Feel like its a lot easier to have an archive of posts on Lemmy. Also, actual discussion. Maybe not as convenient for a quick jerk off but great if I want to actually find something specific later.

I agree that the general Lemmy community is pretty bad and it makes browsing All pretty bad. Comes down to Lemmy devs being communists I think.

blue_nat, in Do you actually care about a food being seasoned with black pepper?
@blue_nat@burggit.moe avatar

Depends on what you’re making. There’s nothing worse than under seasoned dishes. Freshly ground black pepper is a versatile ingredient that compliments many other flavors, but it’s hardly a requirement for everything. I keep two spice mills on the counter, one with black peppercorns, and the other with white, because there’s many things that can benefit from one or the other.

diff, in Do you actually care about a food being seasoned with black pepper?
@diff@burggit.moe avatar

Since it doesn’t have much “character” of its own, it goes well with many kinds of foods while also being generally agreeable to most people’s tastes. That’s probably the main reason it’s so popular.

I don’t care for it either, but it’s fine if you also add salt

RA2lover, in Both of sharekey and lemmy instance were inaccesible.
@RA2lover@burggit.moe avatar

The domain expired for a few hours yesterday due to a now-solved account balance issue with the proxy used to register the domain on behalf of burggit staff.

You were seeing a parked domain page during that time.

boredcraft,

That is, logical. Understood

Sharkey for sure after using it for a bit

Rubsite, in Do you guys prefer the Burggit Sharkey instance or this Lemmy instance?
@Rubsite@burggit.moe avatar

I do prefer Sharkey but at the same time, I like having a Reddit forum alternative for posts but none of them support loli/shota posting which sucks.

Burger, (edited )
@Burger@burggit.moe avatar

It’s not 1:1 to traditional forums like Lemmy/Reddit, but there’s channels for which you can group posts following a specific topic. I wish this feature was more at the forefront, imo. You access it by going to More -> Channels

@Rubsite@burggit.moe avatar

Ohh ok that is pretty good

blue_nat,
@blue_nat@burggit.moe avatar

From a content UI perspective I guess this is why I would lean in preference towards Lemmy. It’s pretty quick to figure out how to locate and browse similar content.

That said I will be up front about not having dived deeply into Sharkey to figure out all the potential that’s there to make it do things in a way I’d prefer. Though perhaps that’s a point against it as well, since it may take more work to get it functioning like that.

Disabled, in reccomendations for more loli shota safe online communities ??
@Disabled@burggit.moe avatar

There’s shota.house which is a loli/shota safe twitter-like platform that @burger@burggit.moe and myself run. Here’s an invite link: shota.house/…/EdCGgm8zBpFuMFKpVrCvOZOP5VKvEwDCGLy… just sign up and log in. (Good for multiple people, if other Burggit users want to join)

There’s also baraag.net which is a very large art posting instance (also twitter-like) for loli/shota enjoyers.

There’s gelbooru.com which is an art posting gallery where you can find various anime images, including loli/shota (but has to be enabled in settings)

there’s allthefallen.moe which runs various loli/shota focused sites/services.

that’s basically all I know of at the moment.

Burger, in Do you actually care about a food being seasoned with black pepper?

If it’s like the only spice, then it’s better than nothing, IMO.

Relish,

it looks pretty cool at least

Disabled, in How to use Telegram without a phone number?
@Disabled@burggit.moe avatar

You could probably use a service like Crypton.sh to get a phone number to attach to Telegram, while not linking it to your actual identity. I’ve used this method for various sites which require phone verification.

Sat, in How to use Telegram without a phone number?

You can just make your number private and prevent people from being able to find you by it. If your issue is the account creation itself then at best get a prepaid number or use one from a 4g modem.

rinkan,

You can just make your number private and prevent people from being able to find you by it.

Telegram themselves would still know who you are, and would be able to sell that information, or it could be stolen in a data breach. For some people that’s not such a big deal, but it’s not really an acceptable option for those that really care about privacy.

Sat,

I mean that’s fair. Though if you use your phone they will probably store its hardware information as well. Then you will probably not get around having to use a burner number.

rinkan,

Yeah, letting your device talk directly to them would make the whole thing moot, of course. blobcatlaugh2
