Figures that while I search for Paint.NET replacements the most promising one would be a passion project held together with Visual Basic 6, duct tape, and prayers

allison,

@icedquinn Krita is way more in the Painter/Clip Studio Paint space, versatile as it admittedly is. https://photodemon.org/ this is the one I'm looking at

oof. the kinesis keys feel very heavy after using the gchocs.

they're only reds but still. damn.

looks like the 360 uses kalh box pinks which are 35, which is still more than the low profile pinks which are 20.

i might actually have to go build a dactyl, shit.

allison,

@icedquinn >low profile 20g actuation switches are real
Oh damn, might actually have to look into getting some

allison,

@icedquinn @mia 20 vs 25 isn't a big difference esp considering the travel distance, as long as they're light and capable of reasonable apm I'm happy with them

It says in that article linked that “hickeys” are caused by kissing OR “sucking”

Is this like some vacuum cleaner play stuff? How am I supposed to know of niche stuff like that. I’ve seen a dwarf get involved with such things but it was part of a circus performance and they never spoke the H word

allison,

@nik @Arcana @Ukko this is definitely true in my experience

allison,

@Arcana @Ukko @nik no? there are folks who do it because they vibe or they like the feeling legit (I'm not one of those people)

GNU Info is one of those great ideas hampered by an utterly dogshit UX that the entire FSF has conspired to preserve. Or something. I dunno.

Info itself is basically what you would expect from a 1970s ebook format and texinfo itself is actually a very sane markup. I think everyone just hates it because info itself has a fucking awful TUI interface. Like come on its literally more fun to just open the docs in fuckin lynx :blobcatgooglynotlikethis:

allison,

@icedquinn I will be very happy if I can find a documented way to use texinfo as a static site generator

Borrowed this book about Java, because I'm just looking to learn a new language of some sort. Haven't brought myself to opening it yet. I hate myself.

allison,

@meso @iska @kirby @sarvo I'm going to stir the pot here a little and say that Java is Fine, Actually. Not great (a language of its target demographic never really can be), but fine. Really the worst thing about it is some of the tooling like Maven which can go straight to hell, and the longstanding meme about Eclipse being the go-to free Java IDE when NetBeans is heaps better for any normal person (I deliberately refrain from commenting on IntelliJ because I haven't used it)

allison,

@iska @meso @sarvo @kirby Yes the verbosity is the worst thing about it and basically necessitates an IDE if you don't want to kill your fingers. That being said, they worked on it in recent versions and I still follow it easier than some whitespace significant memelangs like everyone's favorite snake.

allison,

@mischievoustomato @nyoom @iska @kirby @sarvo @meso The best way to rein in bad programmers is by restraining their cleverness, the kinds of footguns Java has are very different from languages which actually incentivize showboating.

allison,

@mischievoustomato @nyoom @iska @kirby @sarvo @meso Nowadays I think you would see Go for the kinds of things Java was sold for after the initial hype for it in the 90s as a "write once, run everywhere" desktop language.

allison,

@Moon @nyoom @iska @kirby @sarvo @mischievoustomato @meso End-user desktop applications is where Java still has an edge compared to Go, I think. Lots of decent tooling and libraries for stuff like that even if it is a bit of a meme because who writes cross platform desktop applications on anything but Electron anymore?

I feel like women's fashion is a Madonna-Whore complex playing out on a global scale

allison,

@hidden it definitely feels this way sometimes, either that or a way for men to live vicariously thru women

allison,

@hidden Haven't they heard the adage that it's actually more erotic to leave some skin covered? Smh, honestly the worst thing about contemporary (non-alt) fashion is that it tends to leave absolutely nothing to the imagination. Japan may be a little over the top with their Victorian revival subcultures, but at least their heart is in the right place. (also as someone who is certified autistic with a doctor's note and everything, I will always just go for clothes that cover everything whenever I can, it's more comfy and less overstimulating that way)

allison,

@hidden who is she?

tfw I want to do real gamedev I'll have to use the crab language or something similarly cumbersome 🥀

allison,

@nyoom C++ tbh, I doubt most studios even let you touch crablang

allison,

@Moon @nyoom depends who you ask

allison,

@Moon @nyoom for substrate probably c still sad as it is to say

allison,

@Moon @nyoom that being said you can carefully minimize it and keep it to the portions that are truly performance critical and do everything else in even interpreted puc-rio lua for most genres

allison,

@Moon @Ukko @nyoom python has really only done well for visual novels tbh

allison,

@Moon @Ukko @nyoom same, my dream engine is something like what I linked about but with the lua ripped out and replaced with s7

allison,

@Ukko @nyoom @Moon you're not wrong, but I'm specifically talking about python as a main/sole language

allison,

@xianc78 @nyoom @Ukko @Moon So I've heard, but I'd be very hard pressed to name any commercial game written primarily in Python that isn't a visual novel.

allison,

@lebronjames75 @Ukko @nyoom @xianc78 @Moon Yeah which is why I added my qualifier as "main" language, Python just for game logic is fairly widespread

Best Buy now putting niggerfaggot flags above their customer service counter. They've never had anything I needed so this is a good excuse to stop going permanently.

allison,

@RustyCrab @deprecated_ii @Moon I feel like anyone actually trying to compete with Micro Center is going to be in for a rough time these days

allison,

@RustyCrab @deprecated_ii @Moon Counterpoint: most Americans doing this kind of shopping do it online and for very good reason. Basically all physical retailers exist at the margins in this space and Micro Center is simply the one that is left after every single competitor either pivoted away for business reasons or ran itself into the ground trying (most recently Frys). I would love to be proven wrong about this of course, but if anyone can do it, it definitely isn't Best Buy.
