is long and kinda depressing, but it got me thinking:

I don't think the reaction of OG internet dwellers to normies hosting the most popular websites should be defeat.

That a niche website doesn't have millions of people on it doesn't particularly matter, because if it were in the before-times, that site also wouldn't have millions. It would have a couple hundred, maybe a couple thousand dedicated users.

I think the proper reaction to normies doing normie things online is to simply ignore them and stay well away. Stop comparing it to other places and just focus on making the site you care about a fun place to be

@binkle video starts with Faust. Omg I had to read Faust for school. That book has serious plothole issues. All everyone takes from it is "don't make a deal with the devil", while the bigger lesson "don't simp for a woman" goes completely unnoticed.

So this Faust guy really pines after some woman. Then makes a deal with the devil, presumably to get that women.

And then he never 1. use any supernatural powers. In fact I don't think that deal got him anything, but a placebo confidence boost.
2. that woman becomes irrelevant to the story after the deal.

I don't remember who it ended...

@SkyenceFiction Yeah, I agree. It's all very complex. Really too much for cartoon horse. Rarely are there this many details on any drawing.
I guess I really got this issues:

  • How can I draw reasonably accurate, yet abstracted ponies. And not just through copying, but through understanding the simplified surface anatomy.

These anatomical drawings of real horses are pretty bad. Almost impossible to understand. They show all the muscles at once. They never show were a muscle actually attaches.

@SkyenceFiction Like this is basically impossible to read. I mean it's impossible to see which muscles belong togther. There are way too many drawn in, which don't matter. It's only from one perspective. It's impossible to see the attachments to the underlying skeleton.

I'm sure one could learn how to do it, but that would take years of studying.
I can't extract any value out of this picture. It's just not readable. It's also too much for what should be pretty simple ponies.

@SkyenceFiction This is basically how I attempted to study the rump anatomy. But I feel like this is overly simplified. Also these two ref pics don't even share the same anatomy understanding. It's not even the same subject.

So what is one to do? Study horse? Horse don't actually look like the stuff in the ref pic.
It just seems all very complicated and hard to understand. And it sucks that there is no one to ask questions about this.

For me personally, I am shocked to find Sabel on that list. If I hadn't gotten it for free, I guess I would have now not bought it. Despite the glowing reviews.

if the abstract syntax tree is the language you use to speak to the computer (in scheme, but really in most high level languages when you dig into them), then any symbols in the language which are extraneous to that must be speaking to the compiler itself, meaning that (),"",[],{},etc can be defined as mode switching operations which alter the internal state of the compiler. for example:

"" is the most obvious and could be defined as "interpret this as a literal string"

() could be defined as "interpret this operation and data according to the definitions given prior and output the corresponding machine code into the result executable"

{} could be defined as "interpret this as a definition of a symbol and place that definition in the dictionary of symbols"

there are doubtless other things one might want to inform the compiler about as it's doing its job but you get the idea

I guess you want the info I lined or not be visible in the code file? So that it can be checked into versioning?

Theres a tradeoff between flexibility and complexity. 99% of programmers won't care about what a compiler actual does with their code.

@binkle Defaults help the guys configuring, but it still has a cost. When you write the compiler you have to account for all different options and combinations and test all that...

But then again, if you are making a new language in current year, may as well go crazy with it. Boring already exists and has libraries lol.
