update: the motherboard on my desktop is sufficient and a DAC would be unlikely to offer any improvement. The motherboard on my le epic gamer laptop is trash.
@RustyCrab one thing you have to respect about audio is that it's one of very few cases where software can actually physically hurt someone (that and flashing/epilepsy)
I got myself a pair of very nice open back headphones since that’s one of my bucket list items. They’re quite good, but one thing I did’t expect was being too good.
A lot of the normal EDM I listen to sounds like absolute trash. It exposes all the imperfections and ends up sounding like a buzzsaw against the wire.
